Why Flash Just Isn't the Future
Flash is a very popular and high-detail way to create interfaces and websites. Good sites aren't made in flash though - here's why we don't believe in coding entire sites or even parts of sites in flash:
Most importantly (and therefore top of the list) is its negative impact on SEO. Any content displayed by flash is hidden completely from search engines - and making a non-flash sites for the search engines to look at instead takes a lot of time and doesn't work as well as a normal site, as the front page is refered for the flash frame.
From a aesthetic perspective flash is always said to be very good - however we don't think its all that great - it scales badly to varying content, is difficult to achieve propper consistent design with AND relies more on quantity than quality when it comes to design details.
Integrating flash pages with CMS software produces very unintuitive solutions that do their bit to make life hard for our users - and if there's anything we dont want then its to give our users a hard time! Another crucial downfall of flash is a fair bit less than all users have it - and many it suffers from poor accessability.
At nioDesign we dont need flash. We are completely certain that the future of the web is AJAX and web2.0. Any "flashy" effects that we miss out on because we insist in coding what everyone else would make in flash in the less SEO destructive JavaScript, we more than make up for with the style and beauty of our products.
